Years-long court battle delivers victory to surviving “day scholars” of Canada’s residential schools

Day scholars, Indigenous children who returned home to their families after attending classes at Canada’s residential schools, have finally reached a proposed settlement in a class-action lawsuit against the federal government.

The legal battle began in 2009, when day scholars were left out of federal compensation provided to other residential school survivors.
