“Trump is filthy:” Germans, French residents react to riot at US Capitol building

Germans called the storm of the U.S. Capitol a "disgrace" and the "opposite of democracy" on Thursday, saying they only hoped president Donald Trump would disappear and "never return."

Some even said he should be arrested and hoped that "never ever anyone with the name of Trump will be president or even candidate."

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier called the scenes at the U.S. Capitol a "result of lies and a contempt for democracy, of hatred and hate speech" and blamed indirectly also Trump for it.

In Paris, French people were "stunned" at the chaos in the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday which unfolded after President Donald Trump spent weeks whipping up his supporters with false allegations of fraud in the Nov. 3 election, culminating in a call to march to the building that represents U.S. democracy.

They said they were reminded of "yellow vest" protests, an anti-government social movement calling for greater citizen representation.

“Trump is filthy. It’s shocking.” Said one Paris resident.

Hundreds of President Donald Trump’s supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday in a stunning bid to overturn his election defeat, battling police in the hallways and delaying the certification of Democratic President-elect Joe Biden’s victory for hours.
