Retaliation links two stories of Canadians detained in China, years apart

Julia and Kevin Garratt, a Canadian couple who spent nearly 8 months in Chinese prison in 2014, are painting a clearer picture of the situation now facing two of Beijing’s most famous Canadian hostages, Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig.

The two Michaels have been detained in China for nearly two-and-a-half years, accused by China of spying.

Jeff Semple, host of the new Global News podcast "China Rising," compares the two examples of Canadians who’ve become caught in the political crossfire.
