Ontario Premier Doug Ford introduced new legislation aimed at ending human trafficking in the province.
The bill will strengthen the ability of law enforcement and Children’s Aid societies to protect victims, and increases penalties for offenders. Ford says this legislation is "the first of its kind" in Canada.
Ford says Ontario has become a "hub for human trafficking" with the most police-reported incidents in the entire country.
The premier made the announcement alongside Solicitor General Sylvia Jones and Associate-Minister of Children and Women’s Issues Jill Dunlop.
