Ontario’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Christine Elliott is expected to provide a COVID-19 update and make an announcement Tuesday, alongside Associate Minister of Digital Government Kaleed Rasheed and Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore.
It comes after dozens of people attended a demonstration against COVID-19-related measures outside Toronto General Hospital Monday afternoon, with many of them condemning Ontario’s proof-of-vaccination system, which is scheduled to take effect next week.
Hundreds of emergency services workers also held a silent demonstration against inoculation mandates on the front lawn of Queen’s Park.
Ontario is currently dealing with a fourth wave of COVID-19 — a wave that has seen the majority of cases in unvaccinated residents and one that has been fuelled by more transmissible variants.
The province reported 600 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, after the weekend saw around 800 new daily infections. The provincial case total stood at 575,219 as of Monday.
