Inauguration Day: Harris says Biden calls on nation to “summon” American aspiration

Vice-president Kamala Harris spoke Wednesday at the “Celebrating America” event following the presidential inauguration, saying President Joe Biden has called on the United States to “summon” American aspiration, including to “believe in ourselves, believe in our country, believe in what we can do together.”

Harris, the daughter of immigrants from Jamaica and India, became the first Black person, first woman and first Asian American to serve as vice-president after she was sworn in by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the court’s first Latina member on Wednesday.
