On this episode of Global National: Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is vowing to unleash more airstrikes on Gaza, as retaliatory rocket fire and airstrikes claim lives on both sides of the conflict. As Eric Sorensen reports, fears are growing that decades-long tensions between Israeli’s and Palestinians over Jerusalem could soon erupt into another war.

And Palestinians in Jerusalem are outraged over the violence marring the end of the holy month of Ramadan, and being barred from celebrating at one of Islam’s holiest sites. People of all faiths have lived, worked and prayed in the city for generations, but the latest devastating eruption of violence is all too familiar. Freelance reporter Nusa Musleh give us a picture of what it’s like is like for citizens caught in the conflict.

Turning to the pandemic, mixing two-dose shots of COVID-19 vaccines is safe, according to researchers behind a highly anticipated University of Oxford study. Crystal Goomansingh looks at the significance of that and other findings.

Aerosols, small liquid particles that can remain in the air or travel, have been recognized by health officials as a major source of transmitting the virus that causes COVID-19. As Jamie Maraucher explains, to stop the disease from spreading, scientists say Canada needs to focus on improving ventilation systems.

Fuel is still flowing through Enbridge’s Line 5 pipeline, despite Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s demand for the taps to be turned off by Wednesday. But as David Akin explains, the legal battle over the 68-year-old pipeline, which transports crude and natural gas liquids from Alberta through Michigan and the Straits of Mackinac to central Canada, is far from over.

Plus, NASA’s OSIRIS-REx spacecraft is bringing an abundance of samples from the asteroid Bennu back to Earth after spending nearly five years in space. Mike Drolet reports on the historic mission and how long scientists will have to wait to get their hands on the cosmic haul.
