Coronavirus: UK pharmacies join mass COVID-19 vaccine rollout

Pharmacies in Britain began administering the COVID-19 vaccine on Thursday as the government seeks to accelerate the rollout of shots to millions of people, with just a week to meet an ambitious vaccine delivery target.

Some High street pharmacies will begin offering the shots, with 200 community drugstores due to be included over the next two weeks, joining hospitals, doctors’ surgeries and seven large-scale centres in administering vaccines.

Superdrug in Guildford, southeast England, was one of the first pharmacies to start vaccinating people, stating they aim to vaccinate 1,000 people a week.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Wednesday that Britain was targeting a 24-hour, seven-day a week vaccination programme as soon as possible as it seeks to inoculate 15 million people by mid-February.
