Coronavirus: Trudeau, Canadian officials provide update | LIVE

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to provide an update on the country’s ongoing efforts to combat COVID-19 and the vaccine rollout on Friday.

He will be joined by Public Services and Procurement Minister Anita Anand, Health Minister Patty Hajdu, President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada Dominic LeBlanc, chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam and deputy chief public health officer Dr. Howard Njoo.

The update comes a day after Trudeau delivered a statement in the House of Commons on the National Day of Observance for COVID-19 to honour the lives lost during the pandemic.

Health Canada has approved four vaccines for use in Canada. Fortin said to date it has received a combined 3.8 million doses of the vaccines. Johnson & Johnson, however, has yet to deliver its first shipment to Canada.

More than 2.5 million people have died globally due to COVID-19, including 22,000 in Canada.
