Mayor John Tory will be joined by Toronto’s medical officer of health Dr. Eileen de Villa to provide an update on the city’s COVID-19 cases and the ongoing response to the pandemic on Wednesday.
Toronto reported 636 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, while there were 504 reported in Peel Region and 218 reported in York Region.
On Tuesday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced new Hydro relief rates as well as an expanded support for a learners program to help parents after he announced on Monday a provincewide shutdown amid the COVID-19 pandemic that begins on Dec. 26 at 12:01 a.m.
The shutdown will last for four weeks in southern areas of the province and two weeks in northern areas.
“Unfortunately, despite the restrictions, we’ve seen growing numbers of people travelling between regions within Ontario,” Ford said during Monday’s press conference.
