Coronavirus: Quebec premier provides update as regions loosen restrictions | LIVE

Quebec Premier François Legault is expected to provide an update on Tuesday on the province’s ongoing efforts to combat COVID-19.

Last Wednesday, Legault announced he was maintaining restrictions in the Montreal area because public health authorities feared a novel coronavirus variant could cause rising case numbers and hospitalizations in the region.

However, as of this Monday, residents of Quebec City and several other parts of the province were able to resume eating in restaurants and go to gyms.

The capital area and four other regions moved to the lower “orange” pandemic-alert level on March 8, with the nighttime curfew in those areas pushed back from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Greater Montreal and the neighbouring Laurentians and Lanaudière regions will not see any change, as residents will continue to be forbidden from leaving their homes after 8 p.m.
