Coronavirus: Confusion mounts over who should get Oxford-AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine

Despite being recently added to Canada’s COVID-19 vaccine arsenal, the AstraZeneca-Oxford shot is also adding confusion.

On Friday, Health Canada approved the vaccine for people over the age of 18. Days later, the committee that advises the Government of Canada on vaccines recommended the shot should not be given to people over the age of 65.

The new guidelines cite “limited information” about its effectiveness in older people as the reason it is not recommending the shot be used in seniors. But, as Crystal Goomansingh reports, new research has other countries taking a different approach.
