Chuck Yeager, History-Making Pilot Who Broke Speed Of Sound, Dies At 97 | NBC Nightly News

The fearless pilot made history at just 24 years old in 1947, when he broke the sound barrier in an experimental X-1 aircraft. Yeager served as a pilot during World War II and in Vietnam, and helped train other pilots and astronauts.
