Alberta’s top doctor updates current COVID-19 situation in the province | LIVE

On Tuesday, Premier Jason Kenney announced multiple new health measures that are meant to plateau, and eventually start reducing the number of COVID-19 cases in the province.

On Wednesday it was announced that Alberta will begin offering the COVID-19 vaccine to all Albertans over the age of 12 starting Monday.

Late Tuesday night, Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw tweeted out announcing the death of a 52-year-old woman who died from complications after receiving the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

Wednesday’s COVID-19 numbers in the province saw 2,271 new cases from 20,494 tests.

There were also an additional 903 confirmed cases of variants of concern. Variants now make up at least 59.4 per cent of Alberta’s active cases.

Alberta added three deaths to its COVID-19 total on Wednesday and all three people were under the age of 50.
